The appearance of the brownie in a cup
The brownie is super fudgy, warm, and soft but lacks the structure as it does not contain egg because egg acts as a binding agent in the brownie. It loosens up after some time so you won’t be able to take the brownie from the mug in one piece. So just grab your spoon and eat it in a mug.
This chocolate mug brownie is eaten warm as it holds the crumbs together when it is warm. As it cools down the texture loosens up and the brownie starts to fall apart.

Some important notes to keep in mind while baking the brownie in a cup:
- Use a standard size microwave-safe mug to bake the brownie
- You can use flavorless oil while making it instead of butter.
- Cooking timings may differ based upon your microwave voltage. Always keep an eye on your brownie when it is in the microwave so you do not overcook it.
- Here, I am using 99% dark chocolate, you can use any semi-sweet chocolate.
- If you are using semi-sweet chocolate then use less sugar because semi-sweet chocolate contains sugar in it.
- Always use proper measurements while baking the brownie and follow the steps properly.
- Do not over mix the ingredients which will result in a tough brownie.
- Do not over-bake the brownie as it will get dry. Keep the brownie in the microwave for about 1 minute and then check. If required, keep incrementing 10-10 seconds and keep an eye on the brownie.
- Do not skip adding chocolate chips or chocolate chunks to the brownie because it will help to make your brownie nice and fudgy.
- It is a perfect treat for mid-night craving or for an after-school snack.
- Instead of chocolate chips, you can also use chocolate chunks or grated chocolate for garnishing. Grated chocolate or chunks melts better than chocolate chips because generally, chocolate chips do not melt that quickly.
The best way to serve microwave mug brownie:
Once, your brownie is ready, serve it immediately. But it is ideal to let it sit for 1 or 2 minutes because it is really, really hot. The best way to eat the brownie is straight from your mug itself using a spoon or fork. If you want, you can turn your mug upside down and get the brownie onto a plate and serve it warm.
Enjoy your warm brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or some whipped cream on top.
Is it possible to overcook the chocolate mug brownie?
Yes, it is possible to overcook the mug brownie. So, always keep a check on the brownie when in the microwave as the cooking time may vary based on the microwave voltage. The cooking time of the brownie totally depends on your microwave.
Initially, keep it for 30 seconds or 1 minute and then check if it is properly done or not. If required then keep incrementing for 10 – 10 seconds. Undercooked brownie tastes delicious but overcooked brownie becomes dry, tough, and the taste will differ.
