Instant Rava Dhokla Recipe
Dhokla originates from the state of Gujarat. It is an Indian vegetarian food item consumed as breakfast or as a side-dish snack in the main course. The recipe of Instant Rava Dhokla is one of the easiest recipes to make.
When it comes to dhokla people might think of rice and chickpeas, but today we are gonna make Instant Rava dhokla which gets ready in 2 minutes. SO QUICK!!!!
It is made of “Rava” – no soaking, no grinding or fermentation required to make it. Also, it is easy to cook.

Equipment
- Ceramic Mug
- Microwave
- Fork
- Brush
- Measuring Spoons
Ingredients
Ingredients for making the dhokla batter:
- 4 tbsp Rava (Semolina)
- ¼ tsp Ginger-Garlic Paste
- 2 tbsp Curd
- Pinch Baking soda
- Salt To Taste
- 1 Green Chilies Optional
- ⅛ tsp Turmeric Powder Optional
- Cooking Spray/Oil To Grease
Ingredients for making the tempering:
- ¼ tsp Mustard Seeds
- ⅛ tsp Asafoetida
- Few Curry Leaves
- 1 Whole Red Chili Optional
- 1 tbsp Oil
Instructions
Preparation for making rava dhokla:
- Take a ceramic mug, brush it with oil or cooking spray.
- Add 4 tbsp of Rava, 2 tbsp of curd, salt to taste, ¼ tsp of ginger-garlic paste, 1 finely chopped green chili, and a pinch of baking soda in the mug. Adding turmeric powder is optional. Give it a stir.
- Then add water to make the batter creamy in texture. The batter should have a pouring consistency. Mix everything well.
- Microwave it for about 1 minute and 30 seconds. Keep it aside.
Preparation for making the tempering:
- Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a small pan. Once, the oil is hot, add ⅛ tsp of asafoetida, ¼ tsp of mustard seeds, and some curry leaves. Adding 1 whole red chili is optional. Let it pop and then pour it on top of the dhokla to enhance the flavor. Your Instant Rava Dhokla is ready to serve.

Notes
- Cooking time may vary depending upon the microwave voltage.
- If the dhokla is not ready in 1 minute and 30 seconds then keep incrementing it 10-10 seconds.
- If you have time, you can keep the batter for resting for about 5-10 minutes or you can make it right away.
- Instead of curd, you can also use buttermilk.
- Do not make the batter so thick or so thin, it has to have a proper proportion.
- You can check if the dhokla is cooked properly or not using a toothpick. If the stick comes out clean, then it is cooked perfectly.
This recipe is made in a mug so it is a single portion, but you can also make them in a larger quantity in a pressure cooker or in a dhokla vessel.
You can also add things like coriander leaves into it or you can add any type of veggies like carrot julienne, beetroot julienne or Bottle gourd julienne known as “Lauki or doodhi”, boiled Broad Beans, boiled corns, boiled Green Peas, Green Onion, Pumpkin, boiled potato julienne, Spinach, Mint, Mushroom, sprouts.
This is a good idea to make children eat a lot more veggies with a tastier and healthier option.
The recipe is easy to make, light, and delicious at the same time, which also makes your stomach happier. Moreover, children are going to love these dhoklas, also you can feed them veggies, without them knowing about it.
