Marketing Has Two Stories

There is the story the business tells. And there is the story the customer experiences.

They are not always the same.

What the business says, and what the customer thinks

A business might say: “We offer great quality.” The customer might be thinking: “Can I trust them?”

A business might say: “Our price is competitive.” The customer might be thinking: “Is this worth the risk?”

A business might say: “We have explained everything.” The customer might be thinking: “I still don’t understand what makes this right for me.”

Where marketing psychology begins

This gap is where marketing psychology becomes important.

At Memoir Mug, we are interested in the story underneath the marketing. Not just what a business says. But what the customer is thinking, feeling, fearing, and deciding at each stage of the journey.

Because the message is only half the story. The other half is what happens inside the customer’s mind.

That’s the story we’re here to understand.
